Restitution - California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation

Adults

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) Office of Victim and Survivor Rights and Services (OVSRS) will notify registered victims, who have completed a 1707 form, of an offender’s status and assist crime victims by collecting restitution from the offender. After January 2007, CDCR began garnishing 50%, subject to an administrative fee, of an inmate’s trust account every month to pay his or her restitution and other court-ordered obligations. Information about how to register for notification or to receive restitution is available toll-free from the CDCR's OVSRS at (877) 256-6877 and victimservices@cdcr.ca.gov.

Juveniles

For juvenile offenders in the custody of the Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ - formerly California Youth Authority), the DJJ can provide information to assist victims. The DJJ garnishes 50%, subject to an administrative fee, of a juvenile offender’s trust account each month they are incarcerated to pay restitution and other court-ordered obligations. For more information, call the DJJ directly at (916) 262-0896.
